Physiotherapy at your home: process, costs & insurance.
Certified physiotherapists treat you where you live: in your flat, your house, or your retirement or care residence, anywhere in the cantons of Zurich and Thurgau. With a doctor's prescription, Swiss basic insurance covers the treatment and the visit itself. We coordinate in English or German.
Who home treatment is for
After an operation
Following surgery on the hip, knee, shoulder or spine, the trip to a practice is rarely reasonable in the first weeks. Rehabilitation starts where you are recovering and closes the gap between discharge and moving around on your own again.
After an accident
Whether it was a fall, a fracture or a ligament injury, treatment comes to you for as long as walking is difficult. Once you are steady on your feet again, moving to one of our practices is straightforward.
When mobility is limited
Chronic illness and neurological diagnoses such as Parkinson's, MS or the after-effects of a stroke call for regular therapy, and that is exactly when transport becomes the obstacle. Home visits make continuity realistic.
In later life
Strength, balance and safe movement are trained most effectively in familiar surroundings: your own stairs, your own bathroom, getting out of your own chair. We also treat in retirement and care homes.
For relatives organising care
If you are arranging treatment for a parent or partner, send us the prescription and the address. We take care of scheduling, travel and billing, and keep you posted on how the sessions are going.
How a home visit works
Send your request
By form, WhatsApp or phone, with your postcode and a short description of your situation. We usually reply within about an hour on working days.
Sort out the prescription
Send us the doctor's prescription as a photo or PDF. If the note Domizilbehandlung is missing, we obtain it from the practice ourselves.
First appointment and assessment
Your therapist comes to you, examines you properly and agrees the treatment plan with you, usually within 48 hours of the prescription reaching us.
A course of treatment in your own setting
Normally nine sessions per prescription, with the same therapist throughout. You practise what actually matters: the stairs, the bathroom, the walk to the shops. Billing runs directly through your insurer.
Costs and Swiss health insurance
Coverage rests on a doctor's prescription (Verordnung) carrying the note Domizilbehandlung, which confirms that treatment at home is medically justified. With that in place, mandatory basic insurance (Grundversicherung) is billed directly, exactly as it would be for treatment in a practice.
The journey to you has its own line in the Swiss physiotherapy tariff, position 7311, and that goes to the insurer as well. No travel costs land on your bill. What remains is the usual Swiss cost share: your annual deductible (Franchise) until it is used up, then a 10 percent co-payment (Selbstbehalt).

Home visits in Winterthur
Winterthur is our base in the canton of Zurich. We treat across the whole city, from Oberwinterthur and Wülflingen out to Dättnau, and in Seen, Töss, Veltheim and Mattenbach. A good number of our patients reach us after a stay at Kantonsspital Winterthur, with therapy starting at home right after discharge.

Frequently asked questions about home visits
Do I need a doctor's prescription?
For basic insurance to cover the treatment, yes, and for home visits it needs to carry the note Domizilbehandlung. If that note is missing, we contact your doctor’s practice and have it added. You are welcome to get in touch before you have a prescription; we will explain the next steps.
What does a home visit cost?
With a prescription, basic insurance is billed directly. The journey to you is a separate item in the Swiss physiotherapy tariff (position 7311) and is covered as well, so no travel charge reaches your bill. You pay your annual deductible and the 10 percent co-payment.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We reply to most requests within about an hour on working days. The first visit usually takes place within 48 hours, and sooner if you are being discharged from hospital. Say so in your message if the timing is tight and we will prioritise the booking.
Which areas do you cover?
The cantons of Zurich and Thurgau, from Zurich city and Winterthur through to Frauenfeld, Kreuzlingen and the towns along Lake Constance. The full list is further up this page. If your address sits between them, send us your postcode and we will check availability.
What should I prepare for the appointment?
Your prescription, your health insurance card and comfortable clothes. A few square metres of free floor space is enough, your therapist brings everything else. If a relative or carer wants to sit in, that is welcome and often useful for the exercises later.
Do you treat at weekends?
On Saturdays yes, from 07:30 to 16:30. We do not treat on Sundays. During the week we are out from 07:30 to 19:30, which covers early slots before work and later afternoon appointments.
